Roofs are designed to fulfill many functions, notably, transfer snow and wind loads to the walls, prevent rain and snow water from entering the roof space, and remove moisture and heat. By design, a roof has many characteristics such as being weathertight, durable and secure.  Roofs should also be elastic enough to endure temperature fluctuations between summer and winter without cracking.
