In addition to carrying their own weight, foundations provide resistance to gravity loads that are transferred from the structures they support and to lateral pressures from soil and water acting against them. After excavation of soil or rock, foundations (footing and walls) are poured to exceed the minimum requirement of the Ontario Building Code using the right cement mix for the right application with steel bars when needed and are then let to cure. The curing of poured concrete is essential for it to attain its full strength. Foundations control moisture and dampness stopping them from affecting basements and are water proofed by a thick coat of quality foundation tar. A 4” weeping tile drainage system covered with clean stone and connected to sump pump pit directs water flow from the surface to prevent leakage through walls and floors. |
